The houses in astrology: what are they and what do they represent?
Houses in astrology represent areas in our lives. Each house represents a different facet of our lives for a full, multidimensional picture of our lives. There are twelve houses in total, and each are interconnected with other houses, just like how different parts of our lives are intertwined. The sign each house is in represents how we approach that area of our lives.
Here is a basic overview of the houses in astrology:
st house- The first house represents you. Your looks, appearance, how you act or appear to others, are all located in the first house. The first house also has the Ascendent, which gives astrologers a great insight on all of the things mentioned above. Some astrologers say this house, and the Ascendent, is how you view the world.
nd house- The second house rules values, income, and savings. In my form of astrology is also denotes how you spend your time, effort, and energy. It also rules possessions.
rd house- The third house rules lower education (rudimentary or elementary education), siblings, and short distance travel. In my form of astrology, it also dictates the worldview you were taught as a child, or the one you grew up with. It also lords over transportation.
th house- The fourth house denotes ancestry, family, and your roots. In my form astrology, it also rules where you feel safe, and your comfort zone. It can also represent where you feel at home.
th house- The fifth house rules quite a bit, including, but not limited to: the arts, theatre, hobbies, drugs, sex, gambling, fun, creativity, and kids. Whew! Quite a bit jam packed in there.
th house- The sixth house rules duty and obligations. It also lords over your everyday work, health, and routine. Some astrologers associate it with service, but I attribute service to the 12th house.
th house- The seventh house rules relationships, partners, and marriage. It can also denotes how you see these things, as well as how your future partner will be.
th house- The eighth house rules your spouse’s resources, societal values, inheritance, death, and taxes. Some astrologers also associate it with sex. I also look at it as the societal underbelly sometimes.
th house- The ninth house rules foreign countries, philosophies, religion, and long distance travel. It also rules academia and higher education. I think of the ninth house as the worldview we grow into.
th house- The tenth house rules community, fame, and reputation. It is also associated with the career in the long term.
th house- The eleventh house rules dreams, hopes, goals, and friendships. It can also be associated with colleagues, societal structures, and the world at large.
th house- The twelfth house rules service, hospitals, hidden enemies, dreams (literal dreams, not the figurative ones mentioned above, in the eleventh) and self undoing. I find people with twelfth house placements often work in service fields, or love to serve others.
